History

Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University was founded on July 3, 1992, as per the Law No. 3837.

  • In 1992, Çanakkale Faculty of Education was transferred from Trakya University to Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University.
  • In 1992, Biga Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences was established.
  • In 1992, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences was established.
  • In 1992, the Faculty of Theology was established.
  • In 1992, the Faculty of Engineering was established.
  • In 1992, the Faculty of Agriculture was established.
  • In 1992, Biga Vocational School was established.
  • In 1992, Çanakkale Vocational School of Health Services was established.
  • In 1992, the Faculty of Fisheries was founded. It was renamed the Faculty of Marine Sciences and Technology in 2012.
  • In 1992, the School of Tourism and Hotel Management was founded. It was renamed the Faculty of Tourism in 2013.
  • In 1992, Çanakkale Vocational School was founded. In 2011, it was reorganized into two schools, which were named Çanakkale Vocational School of Social Sciences and Çanakkale Vocational School of Technical Sciences.
  • In 1994, Ayvacık Vocational School was established.
  • In 1994, Bayramiç Vocational School was established.
  • In 1994, Çan Vocational School was established.
  • In 1994, Ezine Vocational School was established.
  • In 1994, Gelibolu Vocational School was founded. It was renamed Gelibolu Piri Reis Vocational School in 2000.
  • In 1994, Yenice Vocational School was established.
  • In 1994, the Graduate School of Natural Sciences and the Graduate School of Social Sciences were founded. They were merged into the School of Graduate Studies in 2020.
  • In 1996, The School of Health was founded. It was renamed the Faculty of Health Sciences in 2019.
  • In 1997, the Faculty of Fine Arts was established.
  • In 1997, Gökçeada Vocational School was established.
  • In 1998, the School of Physical Education and Sports was founded. It was renamed the Faculty of Sports Sciences in 2018.
  • In 2000, the Faculty of Medicine was established.
  • In 2000, Lapseki Vocational School was established.
  • In 2008, the School of Foreign Languages was established.
  • In 2008, Gökçeada School of Applied Sciences was established.
  • In 2009, ÇOMU State Conservatory was established.
  • In 2010, the Graduate School of Educational Sciences and the Graduate School of Health Sciences were founded. They were merged into the School of Graduate Studies in 2020
  • In 2011, the Faculty of Communication was established.
  • In 2011, Biga School of Applied Sciences was founded. It was renamed Biga Faculty of Applied Sciences in 2017.
  • In 2012, the Faculty of Architecture and Design was established.
  • In 2012, Çan School of Applied Sciences was established. It was renamed Çan Faculty of Applied Sciences in 2022.
  • In 2012, the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences was established. It was renamed the Faculty of Political Sciences in 2016.
  • Çanakkale School of Applied Sciences was founded in 2013. It was renamed Çanakkale Faculty of Applied Sciences in 2020.
  • In 2013, the Vocational School of Marine Technologies was established.
  • In 2015, the Faculty of Dentistry was established.
  • In 2022, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences was discontinued. Instead, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Natural Sciences were founded.
  • In 2023, the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts was founded.
  • As of 2023, ÇOMU incorporates one graduate school, 21 faculties, two colleges, 13 vocational schools, and 43 research centers.
