In the province of Çanakkale, the island of Gokceada and its surrounding freshwaters are the home of the recently discovered 4 new sucul snails specimens.
Known for its natural and cultural wealth, Gokceada’s new live specimens were studied by a team of teaching faculty from Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (COMU).
A COMU team comprised of teaching member Dr. Serpil Odabaşı from the Department of Vocational Marine Technology, Associate Professor Dr. Deniz Anıl Odabaşı from the Faculty of Marine Sciences and Technology and Research Officer Dr. Secil Acar completed their freshwater research project after 3.5 years.
In the scope of the Science Citation Index (SCI) an international journal released an article listing the live specimens by the following names: “Bythinella Gokceadaensis,” “Grossuana Kayrae,” “Pseudomnicola Cirikorum” and “Pseudamnicola Radeae.”
